Regional Cultural Differences Conference

Barcelona, Spain

Welcome to the official website of “Causes and Consequences of Regional Cultural Differences: A Geo-Psychological Perspective” – an interdisciplinary in-person conference in Barcelona, Spain, from July 18th to July 21st, 2022.

Recent years have seen an upsurge in academic interest in the composition, causes and consequences of regional (i.e., intranational) cultural differences. This interest spans multiple sub-disciplines within psychology (e.g., personality, social, cross-cultural psychology) and applies to neighboring fields, such as geography, economics, health science, and computational social science.  The result of this is a dynamic and fast-growing literature. However, because of the interdisciplinary nature of this area, researchers from different disciplines rarely meet in person as they attend different conferences.

We have organized this conference to bring together scholars from various disciplinary backgrounds who share an interest in regional cultural differences and geo-psychological research. Our goal is to provide an intimate conference setting with approximately 60 participants of diverse disciplinary backgrounds, across all career stages, and from many different parts of the world. As such, our conference is designed to offer an opportunity for intellectual exchange, academic networking, and interdisciplinary collaboration. In addition to bringing together experts who are already working on geo-psychological and regional cultural questions, the event also aims to attract graduate students and early career researchers interested in geo-psychological research.

The conference will be an in-person event, held in Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia, where attendees will experience the power of regional culture (and the unity and divisions it may create) first-hand. As an additional incentive, the current conference will start only a few days after the end of the European Conference of Personality 2022 (ECP22), held in Madrid from July 12th to July 15th. Barcelona and Madrid are only 2.5 hours apart by fast train.

We are looking forward to hearing from you and are excited to welcome you to Barcelona. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to one of the organizers at any time.

Sincerely,

Friedrich Götz, Tobias Ebert, Verónica Benet-Martínez, & Jason Rentfrow (Organizers)
